Fudge head to Islington.

11/01/2010

Fudge and The White Room have been commissioned by Creative Islington and Islington Council to develop and build the digital platform that will become the focal point for Islington’s cultural and creative strategy.

The contract was awarded as a result of the agency’s digital track-record, but also in acknowledgement of Fudge’s experience of working with organisations in cultural and creative sectors.

Creative Islington is the third sector network organisation for the creative industries
in Islington. Established as an independent organisation, creative Islington works strategically to develop synergies between members of the cluster, the local authority and other relevant strategic partners in order to promote the continued development of the sector. Creative Islington has identified four main areas of strategic activity:

– The development needs of the local cultural and creative sector
– The cultural and creative needs of Islington’s communities
– The strategic priorities of London Borough of Islington
– The strategic priorities of regional partners

Islington has an enviable cultural infrastructure with over 14 theatre and dance venues, an extensive community arts sector and major clusters in Architecture,
crafts and the performing arts. Islington is also home to 36 of Arts Council England’s Regularly Funded Organisations.

The Creative Islington digital platform is a vital tool that will bring together this creative and cultural community and develop new collaborations, activities, products and services. The platform will help promote the extraordinary work of the sector to both residents and visitors alike, encouraging active participation in the arts and new markets for creative goods and services.

Islington Council recognises the importance of the creative and cultural sector to the social and economic life of local residents and is providing the funding for this exciting development.

Phil Jeffs, Technical Director at Fudge said:

“Creative Islington is an exciting project for us, and we look forward to developing
a long-term relationship with the organisation. Perhaps unknown to many, Islington contains a high concentration of creative individuals and businesses and
cultural venues.

Fudge has been tasked with developing a community-based site, which will connect both the individuals within the region and the external audience of visitors and potential service procurers. We look forward to another positive collaboration with The White Room following the success of the Creative Central project for North Staffordshire and the re-launch of Creative Times in Manchester.”

Creative Islington Board member, James West adds:

“The development of the Creative Islington website marks a new chapter in the life of Creative Islington and will be a major resource for the borough’s arts and creative industries. We are delighted to be working with Islington Council on this exciting initiative that will see the sector continue to flourish and grow”.
